"The sun'll come out tomorrow!" (fingers crossed)

Thursday, August 4, 2016

Hello...! Well we're back...almost back to normal! 'Annie' sung in her optimistic tone  'the sun'll come out tomorrow' we've decided to stay just as optimistic too! As you may or may not have seen on our FB page we had a mini drama this week when a glass of water was spilt over our laptop, so apologies for the delay in our blog post! We've managed to borrow a laptop whilst ours is deciding whether to come back to life or not, so we're now able to keep you updated. Oh the dramas of modern technology...this is why we're in the business we're in and not technology and why we love clothes and accessories so much. You see if we had spilt water on an item of clothing or a piece of jewellery or a scarf, we could simply dry it off and it would be as good as new. Apparently...as we can confirm, that rule doesn't apply to technology, you dry it out in all the recommended ways and it definitely doesn't return to 'as new' :( Anyway, onwards and upwards, I guess i'll just put new laptop on the shopping list and research waterproof keyboards!

Talking of shopping lists though... Katherine was working at QVC last week modeling for one of the newer collections to the channel, a Scandinavian brand called 'Pilgrim' Jewellery. It's a beautiful collection of fashion jewellery but what Katherine really liked most was the contrast of different styles and looks in one collection. They had pieces with soft leather, modern chunky pieces, fine delicate necklaces and chunky cuff bracelets, it really felt like there was a little something for everyone and the guest Helen, was a fab personality, talking about "Scandi-cool" whilst rocking gold studded cowboy boots and a pink streak in her hair! It was a great show and definitely a brand to look out for on QVC.

Whilst on the subject of QVC, Katherine might be doing a LIVE 'Style Chat' for QVCUK's Facebook page next week. We'll keep you updated on the details of when it will be but she'll be sharing some styling tips and talking about some of her favourite QVC products and anyone can tune in LIVE on FB to watch, ask questions, and join in! It would be great if you could tune in and join her!

Jane's been busy this week sourcing lots of new loveliness for some our personal shopping clients. It's a strange time of year at the moment for fashion as Summer has already gone on sale, even though most of us feel like we blinked and missed it and the beginning of the Autumn season is already on the rails. The great thing is that we can all pick up some bargains for the late Summer heatwave we're all banking on/praying for! It's also a good time to pick up some more versatile pieces that you can use throughout the seasons.

When out shopping we're currently focusing on versatile items and colour ways and as you all know we're huge fans of building up a neutral wardrobe of greys, beige, navy's, khakis and of course black and then using these base colours as backdrops for our accessories and any colour we may like to introduce. By creating a neutral canvas, it makes shopping for impact pieces and accessories so much easier. We've put together an example of some very neutral pieces (almost 50 shades of greys and beige!) to show you how you can put together simple separates. From these 'simple' understated looks you can easily add colour as and when you want. Take a look below to see an example of how we style the foundation of a wardrobe look. Most pieces are in the sales that we've seen recently so take a look before they disappear.

Click these links for more info (clockwise from top left) :- Phase Eight Margherita Linen Cardigan houseoffraser.co.uk Now £31.88, Silver Grey Longline Cami Top dorothyperkins.com Now £5.00,

Lola Rose Medina Tapestry Print Scarf houseoffraser.co.uk Now £17.50, Tall Mink Twill Jogger Style Trouser dorothyperkins.com Now £16.00, Mink Stripe Scarf dorothyperkins.com Now £6.40, Pale Grey 'Frankie' Ultra Soft Jeggings dorothyperkins.com Now £17.60

This gives you an idea of how using versatile neutral shades can make layering very simple. These looks would be great with some colour brought in with some Lola Rose jewellery, the tops would be just as fab with some blue or white denim jeans and you could easily add a larger burst of colour with a different scarf or cami. Use a white cami with these separates and you'd have a simple smart casual look to go!

If, like us, you love an all over neutral palette occasionally, try mixing these separates up with some tonal accessories like these. When you wear the same shades and tones but mix up the textures adding thought through accessories the possibilities are endless and we tend to find this is a very chic, comfortable and effortless way to style ourselves on busy weeks with hectic schedules!

Hope you've enjoyed the post and as long as we've got a dry laptop to hand, we'll be back soon! :)
